Coalpool Neighbourhood Team

The Coalpool Neighbourhood Policing Team held an Action Week last week. It was very low key but the main concept was to try and engage with residents in our priority areas.

The general feeling from residents is that they feel that crime is low, they feel safer and feel that the Police are visible and doing a good job. This makes me feel proud as the Sergeant on the team. A lot of the credit has to go to Acting Sergeant Adrian Naik who has led the team over the past 12-months. Adrian has done and really good job under difficult circumstances.

Adrian had his Sergeant’s promotion board this week and we are all keeping our fingers crossed for him. He certainly deserves his third stripe for the work that his has done on the team.

Crime is low on the Neighbourhood, however, I am concerned about Anti Social Behaviour on some streets. It’s a shame that a few people ruin it for the majority of the community. The good news is that offenders will be identified and they can either work with me and my team or we will use the various powers and laws available to us to tackle them. It won’t get solved in 5 minutes, but once I start I won’t stop until it’s sorted. Not just words, my track record within the Police Service back this up!

The next phase of my job on the team is to continue to build on the partnership work that Adrian has started. Partners are key to Neighbourhood Policing if we are going to achieve our objectives!

Talking of partners I would like to highlight the excellent work carried out by Paul Arnold from Walsall Housing Group. Paul works very closely with me and my team it’s an excellent working relationship. As part of our Action Week Paul managed to sort out some skips so that residents could get rid of their excess rubbish. It worked really well and enabled the Coalpool Team to engage with residents at the same time.

The future is bright for the Coalpool NPT! It’s taken me a couple of months to find my feet having spent the last 2 years working on response teams and intelligence. I’m now bursting with ideas for initiatives and I am committed to keeping crime and anti social behavior low.

Please feel free to e-mail me at j.nixon@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk If I don’t know about your issue then how can I help you. Obviously, always dial 999 if you require urgent assistance.

I hope to meet you when I’m out and about on foot patrol.

Best wishes,
Sergeant Jim Nixon
